UTILITIES MAP

Despite more than 100 companies being licensed to supply electricity to Pennsylvania consumers, there’s not as much choice as you think. All customers are automatically captured by a handful of legacy monopoly utilities serving exclusive government-granted territories throughout the Commonwealth (the “default service providers”).

After more than two decades of competition, these utilities are still providing generation service to approximately 70 percent of the residential customers on their distribution systems. By stark contrast, the average market share for each non-utility electricity supplier serving customers in Pennsylvania is just 0.3 percent of the overall residential electric market.

Is there really choice for Pennsylvanians?
